On August 22, 2019, 30-year-old Sam Waisbren was crushed to death by a malfunctioning elevator inside Manhattan's luxury Promenade Apartments on Third Avenue. Surveillance footage from the lobby showed him stepping forward as the elevator doors opened, expecting it to stop level with the floor.
